The Magic of a Colorado Elopement

Drew and Griffin’s Colorado elopement was a thing of dreams. They showcased the absolute best of their state, their love and their lives in this well thought out intimate adventure. As a first time camper, the star filled night and smell of pine trees in the air converted me instantly, understanding the allure of the outdoors.

The couple started their day at home with breakfast for their friends and family gearing everyone up for the trek. After getting ready everyone caravanned to the trailhead and set off up the rocky slope. The glacier lake, the snow and ice ahead, and the summer sun contrasted beautifully for the ceremony. Drew changed into her dress behind a tree, as her mom and friends helped her with finishing touches. She came out for her first look absolutely stunning. The guests created an aisle as they stood witness and the couple shared the sweetest vows with each other.

This Colorado elopement crew then caravanned to the campgrounds for the reception. Drew and Griffin’s friends were at the site ahead and set up the sweetest space for the celebration. It was complete with a dance floor, a canoe full of drinks, and a beautiful wedding cake made by a friend. The reception included first dances, speeches and stories around the campfire until the Milky Way was on display in the sky.

Colorado Elopement Details

The day was exactly what the couple wanted. A perfect collection of their favorite things, people and places. If you are considering a Colorado elopement or a camping elopement, go for it! Here are a few more reasons why:

  • Both St. Mary’s Glacier and Guanella Pass Campsite had no event costs for reception and ceremony. Being a public area there were others on the grounds. Those hiking on a Saturday morning in July there were many other hikers that joined us. But once we got to the top we had ample space and it was like we were alone enjoying the view. It wasn’t until the couple kissed that distant whoops and claps could be heard! If crowds is something you would like to avoid, a weekday or less busy time of year would be a good option.
  • It allowed them to spend a whole day celebrating with those loved ones rather than a few hours. That can be important especially if family travels from out of town and they are one of your 20 closest people.
  • The couple was able to do this with only one wedding vendor: me. Their community rallied to celebrate them from doing Drew’s hair, to baking the cake and setting up at the campgrounds. They catered breakfast to their home and dinner for the campsite from their favorite local restaurant. It was brought in coolers to the campgrounds. With some creativity and DIY many expenses were reduced.
  • The backdrop of this Colorado elopement made for the most stunning pictures that they will have forever!
  • Drew and Griffin were able to go on an extended honeymoon in Europe the following day, and truly enjoyed each other. Their big day was unique, fun, creative and intimate!
