planning tips

Deciding on a location for your Tulsa engagement session can be overwhelming! There are so many incredible places to choose from and finding the perfect place for your engagement photos is important. The backdrop sets the tone of the session and how you interact with your partner. It can be a place that is meaningful to you like where you met or your first date location, or it can simply fit the aesthetic and vibe you are looking for.

Here are my Top 5 Tulsa Engagement Photo Location ideas from a Tulsa Photographer that either don’t need fees or permits, or require permits with small fees!

Downtown Tulsa, OK

Tulsa is known as ” the world’s largest small town!” You can explore many places to explore downtown! It is easy to walk around and capture many different types of photos and catch you and your partner just enjoying each other’s company.  One of my favorite spots downtown is the art deco district. The architecture from the 1920s and 30s provides many unique buildings to use as the backdrop of your photos. Downtown is beautiful any time of year!

Woodward Park in Midtown Tulsa

Woodward Park is just three miles from downtown Tulsa. The park is known for its beautifully designed gardens. It has lots of flowers and great fountains. Best of all, permits are easily accessible online and are only $27 for an hour session!  It is very romantic! This location could even be used as an elopement location as well!

Centennial Center in Veterans Park for Tulsa Engagement Photos

If you are looking for New York City Central Park vibes, this is the spot to go in Tulsa! Centennial Center, newly renamed Veteran’s Park,  has spectacular views of the city skyline. If you are looking to do a mix of park photos and some in the city this is a great option. Make a date night out of it and make a reservation at one of the nearby restaurants for a night on the town!

Sunny Acres Farm for Tulsa Engagement Photos

Sunny Acres Farm is located just outside of Tulsa in Mounds, OK. It has year-round beauty that changes with the seasons. It has a vast grassy field filled with wildflowers and sunflowers. There is a pond and large mature trees and even some cows! The fee to use the farm is $30 for an engagement session, which is well worth it!

Unique Tulsa Engagement Photo Ideas

Don’t be afraid to think outside the box! Your engagement photos do not need to be posed and traditional. I’ve done sessions at the Tulsa State Fair, a local retro theater in Broken Arrow, or a local brewery or restaurant. Thinking about a  place that means something to you as a couple! You will look back on your photos for years to come and be glad you have these memories captured!

Pro-tip. Make it a date! Bring a picnic, some champagne, or pizza and beer. Have fun and make it your own!
